Michael O’Connor, P.E., DBIA, is Practice Leader of Bridges & Structures, Transportation at ChenMoore, bringing more than 14 years of experience leading the design, analysis, and delivery of complex transportation infrastructure projects throughout the Southeast. He leads the firm’s Bridges & Structures practice, overseeing multidisciplinary teams in the planning, design, and delivery of bridges, culverts, retaining walls, foundations, and other transportation structures for state DOTs, municipalities, and transportation agencies. Michael is recognized for delivering innovative, resilient, and cost-effective structural solutions while ensuring projects meet client objectives and comply with AASHTO, state, and local design standards.

Michael specializes in the design of reinforced concrete, steel, and prestressed concrete structures using LRFD methodologies, advanced structural modeling, and seismic analysis. His expertise includes bridge and culvert design, foundation engineering, retaining walls, miscellaneous structures, constructability reviews, and risk-based decision making for both traditional and design-build projects. He is highly experienced coordinating multidisciplinary teams, resolving complex design challenges, mentoring engineering staff, and implementing quality-driven processes that improve project delivery and enhance client satisfaction.

As Practice Leader, Michael has cultivated strong, long-standing relationships with departments of transportation, municipal agencies, and industry partners throughout the Southeast.
