John Gardner, P.E., is Vice President, Chief Principal Engineer, and Practice Leader of Power Delivery and Substation Design at ChenMoore, with over 20 years of experience in electrical engineering, utility infrastructure, and power system design. He leads the firm’s Power Delivery practice, providing executive leadership for substation engineering, transmission and distribution systems, protection and control, SCADA integration, and utility infrastructure projects for investor-owned utilities, municipal utilities, government agencies, and institutional clients. As Principal-in-Charge and Engineer of Record, Mr. Gardner oversees multidisciplinary teams delivering complex electrical infrastructure projects from planning and design through construction support and commissioning.
Mr. Gardner is recognized for his expertise in substation engineering, protective relaying, SCADA systems, transmission and distribution design, relay settings, commissioning, and roadway and site lighting. He has served as Project Manager, Lead Engineer, and Engineer of Record for numerous substation expansions, greenfield substations, transformer replacements, transmission line protection upgrades, and utility modernization projects for clients including Florida Power & Light (FPL), JEA, Beaches Energy Services, Gainesville Regional Utilities (GRU), Florida A&M University, Kennedy Space Center, and municipal electric utilities throughout Florida. His experience also includes overhead and underground distribution engineering, fiber optic communications, utility coordination, and advanced lighting design for transportation, campus, and utility facilities.
Mr. Gardner is a licensed Professional Engineer whose combination of technical expertise, executive leadership, and commitment to engineering excellence has made him a trusted advisor to utility providers across the Southeast.
