230 kV / 500 kV Transmission Substation

ChenMoore served as Project Principal for the design of a new 230 kV/500 kV transmission substation for a confidential energy services provider in Putnam County, Florida. The project expanded regional transmission capacity through the design of a major high-voltage substation incorporating autotransformers, circuit breakers, switching equipment, and supporting structural systems.

A confidential energy services provider retained ChenMoore to serve as Project Principal for the engineering of a new 230 kV/500 kV transmission substation in Putnam County, Florida. The project supported expansion of the regional electrical transmission network through construction of a new high-voltage switching and transformation facility.

The substation design incorporated the termination of four single-phase, 500 MVA autotransformers together with a high-voltage switchyard consisting of twelve single-phase 500 kV circuit breakers, disconnect switches, and associated structural support systems. The layout was developed to provide safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the transmission infrastructure.

ChenMoore provided both structural and electrical engineering services for the substation, including engineering for transformer terminations, circuit breaker and switch arrangements, and supporting steel structures. The multidisciplinary design emphasized constructability, maintainability, and compliance with utility design standards.

ChenMoore coordinated engineering deliverables to support the client’s design and construction schedule, enabling timely implementation of this critical transmission infrastructure project. The substation was under construction during 2014.
