ChenMoore provided design and construction services for the Emergency Bypass 48-Inch Force Main project in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Delivered under an accelerated emergency design-build schedule, the project was developed to replace a critical section of the City’s primary wastewater transmission system while maintaining system reliability and minimizing service disruptions.
The project involved the installation of more than 22,000 linear feet of 48-inch force main through a complex urban environment with significant environmental, permitting, and constructability challenges. ChenMoore performed route evaluation, surveying, subsurface utility engineering, geotechnical investigations, environmental assessments, and permitting coordination to support successful project delivery.
Horizontal directional drilling (HDD) served as the primary installation method, including multiple deep installations and challenging subsurface crossings. Extensive environmental coordination was completed to address benthic resources, dewatering requirements, and agency permitting needs, while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Through integrated design-build collaboration, ChenMoore advanced design, permitting, and construction activities concurrently to meet an aggressive 18-month schedule. The project was successfully delivered while maintaining environmental stewardship, minimizing community impacts, and supporting the City’s long-term wastewater infrastructure resilience.
