North Beach Park Tidal Flood Resiliency

ChenMoore is providing engineering and environmental design services for shoreline resiliency improvements and park redevelopment at Hollywood North Beach Park along the Intracoastal Waterway. The project is intended to reduce flooding impacts affecting park properties and adjacent State Road A1A while enhancing long-term shoreline stability and resilience.

The shoreline protection design incorporates a combination of seawall structures and limestone boulder riprap embankments to provide durable flood and erosion protection. Shoreline elevations are being designed above the projected 50-year intermediate-high tide elevation in accordance with Florida regulatory requirements, helping safeguard public infrastructure and recreational assets from future sea level rise and storm-related impacts.

In addition to shoreline stabilization, the project includes environmental mitigation and habitat enhancement components. Living shorelines, mangrove intertidal zones, and seagrass mitigation areas are being incorporated to offset environmental impacts while improving ecological function within the project area.

The redevelopment effort also focuses on maintaining and enhancing public recreational opportunities throughout the five pocket park sites. Planned improvements include upgraded picnic areas, interconnected multiuse pathways, and amenities that promote public access and engagement with the surrounding natural environment while accommodating required mitigation features.
