ChenMoore served as the civil engineer and landscape architect of record for the NE 183rd Street Bike Lanes & Water Main Improvements project in North Miami Beach. The project combined multimodal transportation enhancements with critical potable water infrastructure upgrades, allowing the City to realize significant cost and schedule efficiencies through coordinated construction.
The City of North Miami Beach retained ChenMoore to provide civil engineering and landscape architecture services for the installation of approximately 5,420 linear feet of bicycle lane improvements along NE 183rd Street. The project added a new four-foot-wide eastbound bicycle lane extending from the Snake Creek Canal near NE 11th Avenue to NE 19th Avenue, improving cyclist safety and connectivity within the corridor.
The project was closely coordinated with the City’s potable water infrastructure improvements, allowing transportation and utility work to be designed, permitted, and constructed concurrently. ChenMoore designed approximately 3,500 linear feet of new 8-inch HDPE water main, including multiple crossings beneath existing stormwater drainage systems, Florida Power & Light duct banks, and a large-diameter Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department transmission main.
Landscape architecture services included corridor beautification through new landscape improvements that enhanced the visual character of the public right-of-way while complementing the bicycle facilities and utility improvements. ChenMoore also coordinated expedited permitting to maintain the project schedule and maximize construction efficiencies.
The project was funded through a combination of Florida Department of Transportation Local Agency Program (LAP) funding and Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA) funding. By integrating roadway, utility, and landscape improvements into a single project, ChenMoore helped the City improve mobility, upgrade aging infrastructure, and reduce overall implementation costs.
