Old Palm City Ripple Eco-Park

ChenMoore served as a subconsultant to Giangrande Engineering & Planning, providing landscape architecture design and permitting services for the Old Palm City Ripple Eco-Park. Funded through a National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Creative Placemaking Grant, the project transformed a neighborhood stormwater improvement initiative into a vibrant public space that integrates environmental infrastructure, community gathering areas, and public art.

Spanning approximately 2.5 acres across four sites, the project brought together local artists, engineers, landscape architects, community members, and Martin County staff to create a park that celebrates the relationship between infrastructure, ecology, and the surrounding neighborhood. The design converted an existing stormwater retention area into an attractive public destination that improves drainage and water quality while strengthening community identity.

Implemented in two phases, the project included the design of boardwalks, gazebos, interpretive features, and other site amenities that encourage public interaction and environmental education. Public art was thoughtfully integrated throughout the park to reinforce a strong sense of place while highlighting the importance of stormwater treatment and watershed stewardship.

By combining resilient infrastructure with placemaking and ecological restoration, the Old Palm City Ripple Eco-Park enhances water quality, promotes environmental awareness, and creates lasting recreational and educational opportunities that support the long-term health of the St. Lucie River and the surrounding community.
