Prospect Lake Clean Water Center 54-Inch Product Pipeline

ChenMoore served as Lead Designer for the design-build delivery of the Prospect Lake Clean Water Center 54-Inch Product Pipeline, a critical water infrastructure project connecting the Prospect Lake Clean Water Center to the existing Fiveash Water Treatment Plant. The project was developed to strengthen system reliability, increase operational flexibility, and support the continued delivery of potable water throughout the City of Fort Lauderdale.

The project included the design and construction of nearly 17,000 linear feet of large-diameter water transmission main utilizing a combination of prestressed concrete cylinder pipe (PCCP), ductile iron pipe (DIP), and high-density polyethylene (HDPE). The alignment traversed a highly constrained corridor requiring multiple trenchless installations, including railroad and major roadway crossings, while maintaining existing utility operations and minimizing disruptions to the surrounding community.

ChenMoore provided comprehensive engineering services including route evaluation, utility coordination, surveying, trenchless design, permitting, and construction observation. The design incorporated horizontal directional drilling and jack-and-bore methodologies to safely navigate critical crossings while reducing impacts to transportation infrastructure and adjacent properties.

To support the accelerated design-build schedule, the project was divided into nine phases, allowing critical crossings and permitting efforts to advance concurrently with material procurement and final design activities. Continuous coordination with the City, contractor, CSX Transportation, FDOT, FAA, FDEP, and other regulatory agencies ensured successful project delivery within a complex permitting and construction environment.
